Bestwood Duck Ponds, Papplewick, Nottinghamshire...
This is the jewel in the Association’s crown, a complex consisting of five well established lakes in very pleasant wooded surroundings. Around 150 pegs are available with fishing to cater for all tastes. No 1 Pond. This is a general coarse lake and is noted for the large Water Lilly Beds that are home to Tench in excess of 8lbs. Also resident are Carp, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Perch, Chub, Barbel and Pike. There is an average depth of 4-5ft and fish fall to most popular baits. Parking is available behind some pegs and access is very good to the rest of the pond. Night fishing is allowed (with night permit) however, Bivvies and electronic bite indicators are not allowed on this lake. No 2 Pond. Although this could be classed as general coarse lake, this is the one to fish if large Carp and Pike are your main target. Roach and skimmers can be caught by anglers using maggots or casters but the majority of anglers fishing this pond do so for the Carp using specialist baits and tackle. Depths range from 3-11ft and there is a tree covered island to fish to. Access is very good with car parking close by. Night fishing is allowed (with night permit). Bivvies and electronic bite indicators are allowed on this lake. No 3, 4 & 5 Ponds. These lakes contain a general mix of coarse fish and are surrounded by very comfortable pegs. Depths vary from 5-12ft and access around the ponds is quite easy with most pegs no more than 200 metres from ample car parking. Night fishing is allowed (with night permit) but as in No1 Pond, Bivvies and electronic bite indicators are not allowed.
